Fired

Hi there, I am wondering is "fired" a verb or an adjective? Why is there "d" on "fire" is it because of past tense or "to be?"

Shot fired.

' Shot fired ' is not enough of a sentence to discuss this. A shot was fired -- Here, fired is the past participle of the verb ' fire ' to form the simple past passive voice. I don't believe that you will find fired as a predicate adjective, though it makes a fine attributive one: The fired shot reverberated through the chapel.
