fine in questions

Hello,
Apparently "fine" doesn't sound good in questions. Two examples:
- Come have a look at my sentences. Do they look fine?
- Do you think my essay's fine?
I think I've heard people use "fine" in similar questions, but they are rare beasts. What exactly's wrong with "fine"? I wouldn't use it, but I am not sure what's wrong with it.

It just happens that we use 'fine' in the sense of 'acceptable, satisfactory' only in affirmative statements. There is no logical reason for this.
