Find to be OR find (that)

My colleagues believe that it should be:

'I find running to be a good way to release tension.'

He says: Since the word 'find' means 'feel' here, we cannot use 'that' after it. In this sense, the word 'find' is used with 'object" + infinitive.'

I see no reason why 'find' in the sense of 'feel' could not be followed by a that construction. I think there is no such rule. That's odd because 'I feel that' and 'I find that' are the same as 'I think that' or 'I believe that', etc. They are extremely common, and they are correct. They aren't just something new to say. They don't always have to be followed by 'that', but there's nothing at all wrong about those word groups.
