Find the error in sentence!

Help me a simple english question!?
1. In the sixteenth century, Spain became involved in foreign wars with several other European countries and could not find the means of finance the battles that ensued.
A - In the sixteenth
B - became involved in foreign
C - several other
D - of finance
according to answer, D is false, I don't know why? and what should it be?

It should read 'the means to finance' or 'the means of financing'.
