Financial chastity

The need for maintaining the financial chastity of business operations, ensuring the reliability of recorded experience resulting from these operations and conducting a frank appraisal of such experience has made accounting a prime activity alongwith such other activities as marketing, production and finance.

Could you please explain to me what "chastity" means here?

It obviously means that the operations are pure, untarnished, moral, ethical, etc. But I find the word a bit strong and somewhat out of place. [A]
