Finalize the affairs

Hi

Does the word affairs work here with the given qualifications?

(affairs = many unfinished things/deals at the office)

Boss: I can't fly tomorrow or day after. I need to finalize the affairs.

Or this?

For the finalizing of the affairs, it is imperative that he meet us tomorrow.

Thanks,

Tom

Don't ask me why, but it's "finalize affairs", not "finalize the affairs". Otherwise, OK. CJ
