Final flourish

"He is ready to make/do the final flourish before retiring from the game."
Which alternative - make or do is more appropriate in the above sentence ?
If neither is appropriate, how should I phrase the sentence ?

I would say "make his f. " The first would be generic; the second would imply that "the final flourish" has a special meaning, understood by insiders. Of course, "his final flourish" could have a special meaning too, but I'm not familiar with the game.
