Final Draft and Screenwriter
I'm a Mac guy, athough I spent three years writing a business computing column and know PCs, too. FWIW, Final Draft began as a Mac program, while the Screenwriter guys started with Scriptor (a Word add-on that got some kind of special Oscar, it was so helpful) and then bought ScriptThing, which I called the Learjet of script formatting programs (and they put my quote on the box).
I don't have the problems with the title page and little glitches like that when using Screenwriter. In the past I found that FD imported text from other programs a bit better, but Screenwriter caught up.
If I was just now buying a program I'd go with Screenwriter, but the fact that they're competitive causes them to improve.
One word of caution - a few years ago in books I started telling people to write comic books and novels and not just try to grab the screenwriting platinum ring (most people can't even get on the Hollywood merry-go-round). I've noticed that the script formatting programs have added stage play format and now novel format, but that novel formatting can mess you up. You're better off doing the novel in Word, which is the preference of editors, because of the ability to turn on "tracking" when changes are made.
