review - Maua: the Emperor and the King
The film depicts the childhood, the enrichment and the failure of Irineu Evangelista de Souza (1813-1889), an ambitious and successful entrepreneur best known as the Baron of Maua, considered the first great Brazilian businessman, responsible for a series of initiatives for modernizing the national economy, throughout the nineteenth century. Maua, an avant-garde in its time, daring in their struggle for industrialization of Brazil, both were received with red carpet, and kicked the back door by D. Pedro II, the then emperor of Brazil.
