Could anyone help me check the film review below ? Thank you very much.
Train to Busan is by far the greatest blockbuster I have ever seen. It was directed by Yeon Sang-Ho and went on general release on July 20th, 2016. The film won popularity all over the world, setting a new record in Korea with a turnover of 73,7 million dollars.
The film is a dark horror movie, narrating the outbreak of a zombie epidemic spreading over Busan. It starred Gong Yoo as a successful entrepreneur but somewhat irresponsible husband. One day, he drives his daughter, Su-an, to Seoul Station to catch a train to Busan, having no idea of what is awaiting them. While on the train, they befriend a married couple, noticing that the wife is pregnant. A few hours passed, the moving train is plunged into chaos when a passenger infected with an unknown virus starts to bite others and transmits the disease. Soon after that, most of the passengers go out of their mind and chase the people who haven’t been infected. Gong Yoo, together with his daughter and the couple, tries hard to clear their way out of the wagon. Very few people are still “alive”, and from that moment, Gong Yoo, an egocentric man who only cares about himself and his little girl, starts to fight for what is right and protects other passengers. Unfortunately, when blocking the door to prevent zombies from getting in, the husband gets bitten and leaves his pregnant wife forever. Gong Yoo, after taking Su-an and his friend’s wife to a safe wagon, lets himself fall off the train as he has been infected with the virus. The wife and Su-an reach Busan finally, safe and sound.
I am not a horror movie lover since the scenes always scare the life out of me, however, I have to admit that Train to Busan really exceeded my expectations. The soundtrack, the effects and the dialogues are excellent. Although the plot written about zombies is nothing new, the direction and the acting of the film are brilliant. It has a reputation for being authentic and emotional, and it did reduce me to tears when observing people protect their loved ones irrespective of danger or even death. I have also learned from the film that, in such situation, life is not that important, but love is what remains and defines us as true human beings.
I would highly recommend Train to Busan to whoever is looking for a film that not only suits their preference for horror movies but also conveys lessons of life.
