Fill in the gaps with the correct tense

Please check if these tenses are correct. Thanks in advance!
(Here might be some typos. I had to fill only underlined words)

Past simple, past continuous or past perfect? Fill in the gaps with the correct form of the verbs in brackets.

Sharon Embley started (start) working as Deputy Marketing Manager for Fleur de Lys Cosmetics three years ago. It was the kind of job she always wanted (always / want). Competition for the post was (be) really though, and she knew she was (be) selected because of her experience in marketing, which she gained (gain) in her previous job with a pharmaceutical company.

Sharon was (be) young and ambitious. She was also a person of absolute moral integrity. In fact, she applied (apply) for the post with Fleur de Lys mainly because the company prided (pride) itself on its ethnical business practices. Its image was built on natural ingredients, environment-friendly packaging, and a ban on animal testing. This image reflected (reflect) the values which Sharon always cherished (always / cherish).

Things were going (go) really well, until one day a file landed (land) on her desk. She didn't know (not / know) the file was not meant for her, or that it contained (contain) confidential information. She read (read) it all, and discovered (discover) to her amazement that Fleur de Lys was not as "clean" as it claimed to be. It was (be) true that they did not test their products on animals, but only because they did not need to: other laboratories had already tested (already / test) the ingredients on animals!

Ironically, the day before she read (read) the report, the director had called (call) her to her office. She informed (inform) Sharon that she was planning (plan) to promote her very soon as the current Marketing Manager was due to retire.

Sharon didn't experienced (not / experience) such confusion for a long time. What should she do? If she blew (blow) the whistle, she would not get promoted and even might even be dismissed. And if she kept (keep) silent...
