Figure and diagram

Can "Figure" and "Diagram" be used interchangeably?

I mean I've a graph showing the cubic function and also a shaded region bounded by the curve and the x-axis. Should I label it as a diagram or a figure?

I'd call it a graph , then. 'Figure' could also be used, but it is not a diagram (which is a drawing).
