Fight sth back? Win sth back?

Dear Users,

Here's a situation. One person gives 1000 USD to another person for safekeeping. After some time he wants he money back, but the other person refuses to return it. Then after a long time of arguing and disputing the man finally returns the money. In this situation, should the first guy say:

A) I've won the money back.
B) I've fought the money back.

Of course I've managed to get the money back is always a good choice, but I'm looking for a verb that stresses the fighting aspect of the process (not a physical fight)

Thanks
