What is the abbreviation for figures? Is it fig or figs?

Ex.

Fig 5 &6 show the general expenses of American families between 1990 to 2000.

Fig 5 shows... Figs 5 and 6 show... Some will argue that no 's' should be added, but it seems only reasonable to me.
