Fiber

Here is the Wikipedia definiton for fiber:

A piece of material that is long and thin, like a length of thread. They are very important in the biology of both plants and animals, because they hold tissues together.

Now my question is what about the fiber that is in foods and is good for you to consume? is this fiber the same as the fiber which is "like a log length of thead"?
