Fewer/less resources

Hello,

It is clearly FEWER cars.

BUt in terms of RESOURCES, some seem to use "less"

We need fewer resources. (as in fewer types of resources?)
We need less resources. (as in less of a certain type of resouce?)

Can you please explain?

I agree with those (as amended). Keep in mind, however, that 'less' is steadily overtaking 'fewer' even with countable nouns. 'Fewer' may be gone in another hundred years.

I thought you were talking about natural resources like oil and trees. What kind of resource does 'waking' require?

Is "level of resources" ok?

Similarly,

Is the "level of profits" from selling cars correct?

That is, can you use "the level of" and use COUNTABLE nouns?
