Ferris Bueller

The death of John Hughes led me back to Ferris Bueller's Day Off - widely regarded as his best film.
I settled in with virtual popcorn and the warm fuzzies, anticipating a fun time.
And it really doesn't stand up at all. Matthew Broderick is kind of grating, Alan Ruck is okay, but he's playing an 18 year old - and he was 30! Jeffrey Jones is way way way over the top. The plotting is by the numbers and the message, such as it is, is obvious...

Maybe Pretty in Pink or The Breakfast Club will deliver. They at least have Molly Ringwald in her cute and sexy phase...

It's called Don't You Forget About Me, it's slated for worldwide release, and Molly Ringwald apparently declined to participate. There's a BBC news story (don't you normally catch those, Matthew?) at

I liked Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Breakfast Club and Weird Science. I thought they were very entertaining movies that kept the story moving right along with few if any slow points.

Richard Vernon the character actor who played the detention school teacher in Breakfast Club had a very long successful career died in

I have to say, I never got this one at all. Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, sure. But I never understood why so many people liked Ferris so much.
