Felt like or felt?

"we went to see the excavated findings in the monument. There were all sorts of pots, bowls, spoons, and other stuff. I felt like lifestyles weren’t so different in three thousand years ago. "

Is it appropriate to use 'felt like' or 'felt'?!

Can I ask you "felt like" is wrong or inappropriate ?! It is important for me to know as the context was extracted from my teacher's speaking IELTS book.
Thanks so much.

It is too casual for that topic, I think.
