Can I say,

(a) He fell off (from) the bicycle.

(b) He fell down (from) the bicycle.

He fell from the bicycle.

As a rule of thumb, the answer could depend on the distance he fell. You would say

He fell from the aeroplane,

if the aeroplane was flying. But if the aeroplane was parked on the tarmac you would say

He fell off the aeroplane.

However, this is still a bit of a gray area. You may fall from a moving vehicle or fall off a vehicle if you were on its roof. But you
