Fell down vs Had a fall

Hi

I have two sentences:

  • I fell down yesterday.
  • I had a fall yesterday.

Do they both mean the same? If so, can they be used interchangeably?

Please help.

Thank you

writingtosms Do they both mean the same? They can. By the way, we don't say they both mean the same.

  • writingtosms Do they both mean the same?
  • They can.
  • By the way, we don't say they both mean the same.
  • That would mean that each one means the same considered separately, which is nonsense.
  • And they mean the same thing or have the same meaning.

They can. By the way, we don't say they both mean the same. That would mean that each one means the same considered separately, which is nonsense. And they mean the same thing or have the same meaning. Use "Do they mean the same thing?"

There's also 'took a fall'.

However, 'had a fall' and 'took a fall' are extremely rare compared to 'fell'. They barely register on the graph that Google Ngrams gives.
