fell behind the hole?

Hi! everyone.
I am very confused as to how can I say this?
Scenario: We are playing golf after striking the ball it does not reach the hole and stops a bit back from the hole. Now I want to explain what happened.
Can I say "the ball stopped a bit back from the hole"?
I would be thankful if anyone helps me out.

Thank you sir.
Just one more question.
Can I also say these two sentences to explain the same thing ?
1: The ball stopped further back from the hole.
2: The ball stopped a bit away from the hole.

"A bit" is much closer to the hole than "further back."

So they say something a little different.

Does "further back" mean the ball stopped at a point that is a bit more back than the point the ball stopped in the previous strike?

Joe putted the ball without enough force to reach the hole. It stopped a bit away from the hole.
Abdul putted next. He hit the ball too hard, so it passed the hole and stopped further back from the hole.
