Vocabulary

feet or yard

Hi everyone. I read a sentence with a little confused.
" Thirty years of the family’s life was now crammed into the garage. The two-by-fours that ran the length of the walls were the only uniformity ..."

I want to ask , here "the two-by-fours", just omits the "feet" as a linear measurement, right? Or usually they use the another word "yard" in USA? Which is the correct in understanding?
Thanks in advance.

A "two-by-four" is a wooden board whose cross-section is approximately 2 by 4 inches. This is a standard building material in the U.S.
