feel/show/have compassion

In Longman Dictionary, those three expressions mean the same, but "show" put me in doubt! (if "put" was the right verb! (was or were?)) Emotion: smile
I guess showing compassion means actually doing something, and not to do something offensive, whereas "feel" and "have" , I guess, are used to advice someone not to do something.
Could you get me out of the doubt, please?

Another thing.
Longman Example : Did he feel any compassion for the victim of his crime?

So why in here, it is asked about the compassion of someone else for victims? It was supposed to be an inner emotion.

Hi,

The speaker wants to know if any compassion was apparent.
We very often use words without thinking long and carefully about them.
