Feels vs Feeling

Is "My buddy relocated to a different state. He feels good because he got used to the new place and made new friends." sounding a bit weird because of the "feels good" part? I don't know if this sounds funny. Does the sentence convey the same meaning "My buddy relocated to a different state. He is feeling good now because he got used to the place." conveys?

Thanks a lot!
