Feel myself wasting away

I can already feel myself wasting away!

I can already feel myself losing weight!

Hi,

Is it right to interpret the first in the above as the second? If not, why not? Thanks.

The difference between 'wasting away' and 'losing weight' is that the former is caused by illness and refers to gradually becoming thinner and weaker over a period of time, while the latter is a more general expression, which is frequently used when talking about dieting, etc. Therefore, these expressions are not interchangeable. Thanks, Gleb.

Btw, is it the same to say "feel myself withering away?"

You are welcome, Angliholic.

Concerning withering away, it may be superficially regarded as synonymous with wasting away, but the difference is still there. Thus, wither (away) stands for the following: to become weaker and smaller and then disappear. It is chiefly used with inanimate nouns, eg, traditions or love, as in: Their love was wither
