Hello everybody.
I'm reading 'Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott chapter 38.
Want of exercise robs them of cheerfulness, and too much devotion to that idol of American women, the teapot, makes them feel as if they were all nerve and no muscle.
Would you please tell me what the teapot means?
Does the whole sentence imply American women devoted themselves so much to housework that they would become anxious and weak?
Thanks ??
Jamal 1315 Would you please tell me what the teapot means? It's metonymy. The teapot stands for tea.
