Which one is correct or better?
1. I throw some wheat on the ground for the chickens.
2. I throw some wheat down on the ground for the chickens.

In #2, 'down' is redundant. I would change 'on' to 'onto' in #1. It just sounds a little more natural to me.

Hi.
I am not sure about the use of the word "throw" for that context. "Sprinkle" would be a better choice.
