I am writing this letter in response to the research position in (Dept_name/Univ_name).

My current research is focused on the following topics; using pattern classification and machine intelligence to analyze fMRI data, developing 3D features for medical imaging and computer vision applications, and genome-wide association studies.

After joining XXXX in 200X as a PostDoc, the nature of the brain imaging research has profoundly influenced my scientific thinking. I enjoy applying machine learning and image processing techniques in biomedicine. I have used several packages during the course of my work, for example; SPM8, FSL, AFNI, MVPA-toolbox, Mango, MRIcroN, PERMORY, WFU_PickAtlas. I am also a professional programmer in C, C++, and Matlab, and can easily handle other languages like Java and R if needed. I have also supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate M.Sc. students in research areas related to pattern classification, image recognition, data mining, and biomedical imaging.

The reason I am interested in this position at (Dept_name) is to continue researching functional/structural MRI, with special interest on associating it to gene data. Given my extensive abilities and experience, I believe I can be part of (Dept_name) team, and participate in its research in order to enhance my career further.
