Does either of these sentences make sense?


a) "In the 20th century, cancer featured as the disease of the century."


b) "In the 20th century, cancer designated as the disease of the century."


c) "In the 20th century, cancer coined as the disease of the century."



In case either sentence is correct, is there any appropriate verb to express this idea?
