Which of these options below are correct? If both, please explain whether we can use them interchangeably?

1.Thus you can say it without fear of criticism.
2. Thus you can say it without the fear of criticism.


Both are OK, and could usually be interchanged. #1 just makes the phrase seem a lttle more general.
