Fear for

Is the usage of the word "for" after the word"fear" wrong?

I suppose it would depend on the sentence in question. ' is fine. 'I fear for my pants will fall down in public' is not fine.

For example 'I fear for the future of planet Hi-Corumba.' is fine.
'I fear for my pants will fall down in public' is not fine.
