Hi, CalifJim. Sorry for getting off-topic, but a while ago I saw your comment on a similar situation. It was a proverb. I tried Google, but I only came up with "better safe than sorry", but yours had a different meaning. It was something like

You say it had a different meaning, and I think you're right. I don't know if this is what you're referring to, but I have written it. It hasn't risen to the status of "proverb", but it's a fairly common catch-phrase.

It's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.
