Favourite - noun or adjective

England are the 5-2 favourites with leading bookmaker Coral to win the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy heading into the start of the tournament.

I read the above at telegraph.co.uk

is there a test or tip to decide if a given word is a noun or adjective apart from checking a dictionary ?e is "Favourite" Noun or adjective?
