Fate in your hands



Are both of these natural? Which is correct destiny or fate?

The teams fate/destiny is in their own hands. If they win this game, they qualify.


The teams fate/destiny is no longer in their hands. They need xxx to lose their game to qualify.

On the other hand, 'destiny' and 'fate' both sounds lke they are pre-ordained, and thus cannot be changed.

But sports reporters like to speak colourfully, so they would not worry about such subtleties.
