Fastened/ put the blame

Are both these sentences correct and do they mean the same?


a) "Dave fastened the blame for what happened at the little red house on Mike."


b) "Dave put the blame for what happened at the little red house on Mike."

fastened is wrong. put is possible, but unnecessary.

The general structure of the sentence needs some help:

Dave blamed Mike for what happened at the little red house.

You attach blame. Maybe that's what you were thinking of, but you don't attach blame to or on anyone. Blame itself can attach, too.
