Fast-paced

I saw this question on internet: How can we keep in this fast-paced world?
Why can't we use fast-pace instead of fast-paced? Are there any rules or logic which help us to form correct adjectives?

Certain hyphenated adjectives are formed that way, with an adjective and its singular noun:

sure-footed

two-edged

short-lived (an anomaly in that people interpret and pronounce "lived" as a verb)

hard-headed

etc.

You need the passive form of the verb "pace".

The world is paced (so that it moves fast) is the idea behind fast-paced world.

The same is true of many other similar combinations.
