Fast or quick?

Hi Everyone,

How quickly the week has gone.

How fast the week has gone.

................

I have a question about 'fast' versus 'quick'.

The two sentences above are fine, so no problem there.

However, what do people make of these next two sentences:

We quickly ran towards the bus.

We fast ran towards the bus.

The second sentence is clearly incorrect.

My question is:

Why?

Emotion: embarrassed

Thanks

CC Emotion: smile

Fast is in the wrong place. It should be: He ran towards the bus fast. (= at a high speed) He quickly ran towards the bus seems to indicate that he began running after a very short time, but it says nothing about how fast he ran.
