Farmers and less time

1
Hi,

Sarah stayed two weeks at Sunnybrook Farm. There she learned to love old Farmer Franklin's son Walter. Farmers have been loved and wedded and turned out to grass in less time. But young Walter Franklin was a modern agriculturist.

Farmers have been loved and wedded and turned out to grass in less time. What does it mean? Maybe that farmers are only in fields with their own cows after relationship and wedding?

Thanx!

It means that many farmers have been wooed and gotten married and settled into married life faster than Walter is likely to be. Walter has not fallen in love with Sarah as quickly as she has fallen in love with him.
