far off

It is very shocking to learn that racial discrimination still persist in some parts of the world and that too in the present century!!

The writer has bought out too such heart-wrenching incidencnes in this lesson. But the writer's concluding lines give solace to our hearts. The day is not far off, when man by his rational thinking and behaviour could turn hatred into love and make the world a better place to live in.

If I change, far off with far and could with can

What will be the difference in meaning?

If you use could , there is an element of doubt about the effect If you use can , it is a positive statement of effect. I would not use "far" on its own in this context. There is no difference in basic meaning.
