far from, opposite from

I'm wondering "far" can be replaced to "opposite" in the sentence #A below.
Could you tell me if it's possible? #B

#A Everybody expected the musical to be a great hit, but it was "far" from being a success.

#B Everybody expected the musical to be a great hit, but it was "opposite" from being a success.

Could you tell me the difference between when you can use "opposite from" and not??
