01i00All the interviewees agreed that events at the stadium affect their business in a negative way. On the positive side, the city centre becomes busier than usual before the match, which gives the city centre a ‘funny’ image, replaced by that of an ‘abandoned’ town as soon as the match is to start. However, visitors are only ‘spending time while waiting for the match', browsing and window-shopping 01u00without any intention to buy02u00. One interviewee observed that fans ‘spend the money in the pubs, and the cafés, and the restaurants, and they don’t really come in to shop’. The main reason suggested by retailers is that fans don’t want to carry shopping bags into the stadium, either 01u00because of products’ fragility02u00 or simply because they don’t want to 01u00pay attention to their bags02u00 during the match.02i02br
