Fancy?

Hello, it's my first time here. I have a doubt about an adjetive that I had never heard before. What's the meaning of less-fancied???

I thought the adjetive is "fancy" too, not "fancied"

Sentences examples:

. She is the most fancied candidate for the next election.

. Flamengo FC were thwarted by a solid defensive performance from their less-fancied opponents.

I don't understand the word at all, especially in the second sentence. Does this word (adjetive) have a synonym? Less-liked, less-preferred... ¿?

Thank you

Hi, Welcome to the Forum. You are confusing two parts of speech. Two separate words, really.

Thanks Clive, that was clear. Do you think "less-favorite" could be a good synonym of "less fancied" in the last sentence? We're talking about two soccer teams.

Please suggest me a good one

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Flamengo FC were thwarted by a solid defensive performance from their less-fancied opponents.

Do you think "less-favorite" could be a good synonym of "less fancied" in the last sentence? We're talking about two soccer teams. No. But you could say 'less-favoured'.
