For emphasis, I would expect to hear, "I am a somebody in my city."
Otherwise, it might mean, "I'm just one person in my city."

And what would be used just to say that I have work, home, etc and people know and respect me?

How about:
“I am a respected member of my community and people know that I both live and work here.”
