Family v.s. a family

Hi,

Of the two wordings below which one is correct? If they are both correct, then is there any clear-cut difference between them?

1. I have a family

2. I have family

What about these two wordings:

3. I have a family of two

4. I have family of two

Hi,

Of the two wordings below which one is correct? If they are both correct, then is there any clear-cut difference between them?

1. I have a family

If an adult tells me this, I will assume thay are referring to a spouse and at least one child.

I wouldn't expect a child to say this, as one usually assumes that a child has a family, ie at least one parent.
