My question is, can we put 'they look like' after 'or' which seems to violate 'do they' and 'does it?'

Ah.. so 'What does it or they look like?' in your post is your mistake. I got it!

Though what does it or do they look like is OK, it sounds weird?,,,, Um.. it's hard to make one complete new sentence instead of it.. If I will make one, I'd say, 'it(what is it/are they like) means you want to know something or some things in details.
