Would "family" be considered a plural or singular collective noun in the following sentence?

Is your family all coming home for the holiday? I'm not sure if this works or not, but it would be the "is" not the "are."
Perhaps:
Is your family coming home for the holiday?
Are all you fami

I came across referances which used " family are...".

I, however, perfer (as I was taught that way) to consider "family" as a singular entity.
