fake scenes

Hello,

Is it ok to say a handful of coldness for an expression meaning a little bit of coldness?

Does the sentence sound ok? It refers to a wife who suspects that her husband is cheating on her.

It is an ironic text. The husband is wondering why she decided to talk about his adultery when she had known for his affair for a long time and had never objected.

Why is she bothered now by a couple of fake scenes and a handful of coldness.

Thank you

We probably need a little more context to know what is needed for 'fake scenes' At first sight it could be: Why is she bothered now by a couple of tantrums and a cold shoulder. I think 'cold shoulder' could be right for a 'handful of coldness' but I'm not sure about 'tantrums'.

Very good question, the expression sounds awkard in Croatian, too.

I guess fake scenes refer to his (husband's) lies. He must have done something akward that made her think he is fooling around, or he must have revealed himself in these fake scenes or perhaps she caught him in a lie.

Here's the context:

If ' fake scenes' referred to "Florijan just shook his head, stamped his foot and sulkily stared through the window", It would be correct to use 'tantrums'.

However I think the 'fake scenes' might refer to this sentence - "That there is no more even the most benign tenderness between them, nor those little whisperings in the night while the children are asleep."

It's an extraordinary text.
