Could I ask a question about this topic?

The toddler wanted me to take his temperature using a non touch forehead thermometer. Since it had run out of battery and didn’t want him to cry, I faked talking his fever.

Is it natural to say:

I faked taking his fever.

Which is correct?

He was faking/faked being paralyzed.
