Life has become increasingly tougher and therefore, it seems more difficult for everyone to succeed or achieve what they crave for. While some people blame on a dearth of strong desire for their failure, I believe that it is not the decisive factor.
Many people fail for they are not disciplined enough. For example, obesity seems impossible to be cured because people often let themselves indulge in fast food and sedentary lifestyle instead of trying to lose weight. When people do not obey their own strict rules, they will be easily distracted by appealing types of entertainment, thereby not focusing on what they really want. As a consequence, lessons are missed, experience is not gained, and results do not meet the expectations. Therefore, it is understandable when failure is generally associated with a lack of self-discipline.
In addition, the success or failure of a person, in many cases, depends on their fortune, which is greatly affected by the social context, the economic growth and the common beliefs. A strong desire with the support of sufficient knowledge may be abundant when there is no opportunity to take advantage of. For example, is Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg had been born in the 12th century when no one knew about the Internet and information exchange was not as important as nowadays, they might not have become billionaires. In contrast, had Galileo lived under a more progressive regime, which always encouraged innovation, he would not have had to undergo such sufferings.
For the foregoing discussions, it is my view that a failure is caused by many different culprits, namely poor discipline and ill fortune.
