fade/fade away

Hello,
Does "fade away" also collocate well with hope? As in: "Hopes that he'll be found alive are fading/fading away"?

Top answer

I only use ‘fade away’ in the sense of a gradual erasure. Printed material exposed to the sun will fade away and memories that are not being refreshed fade away with time. With ‘hope’ or ‘hopes’, it is the inability to increase or justify it that enables it to fade.
